Imagine 2010, USA has a colored president yet one high school has pursued its election of class officers with the main consideration , the color of skin. It comes as no surprise for racial discrimination is here to stay for a long time. Its manifestations are far reaching: language harassment, colorful expressions and what have you.

Is this due to the fact that the world is inhabited by different races? Or is it because a country feels its people has been unjustly treated? Like what happened to Hongkong tourists who came to the Philippines. They were in the last leg of their tour when a certain Rolando Mendoza commandeered their bus and such hostage drama ended with 8 Chinese nationals dead. Now, it seems dangerous for Filipinos to go to Hongkong. This is sad because if there is one place you should never miss to visit, it is Hongkong. Now, everything is done by the two countries to forgive each other for the tragedy. Hongkong has released "black" advisory indicating to it citizens to avoid the Philippines. Hopefully this is not racial discrimination but an unfortunate event of a misguided grievance turn tragic.

While my beloved country is still nursing its pain, Venus Raj, our contestant for Miss Universe placed fifth in the contest. What a most timely joyous event after a most unfortunate blow to one's confidence. Thank you God.

So racial discrimination can come in various ways. People can glare at each other when together in a train or a bus because as we "dress down" each other, we see more differences than similarities. But wait: when an earthquake or an inevitable plane crash is about to happen, each of us can embrace each other for at that moment all of us are helpless. We become human beings who only want to come out of it safe and secure.

Let not our externals override our intention to live harmoniously in this one world of ours. Let us allow the short duration of staying in this planet an opportunity to take care of each other just as this one world of ours remains safe for our stay however short it is.

Is this still true? The teacher is in so you're in good hands. We dare say yes! it is still true. How can it not be? Classrooms around the world are obvious symbols of and/or for learning. Children are still lucky for homes still flourish thanks to parents who are somehow "alter egos" of The Teacher.

There is so much indifference all around us. Sometimes we can understand why. Some tried to overcome it but found it inevitable. Others opted for the lesser evil and began to hate, at least there is still some feeling. Situations, like this, call for the presence of the Teacher. This is where not just any teacher will do but the real one who "walks his talk". Do not feel flustered, there are really many of them.

In this day and age when the young prefer computer games to the usual tete-a-tete, all sectors of society should join hands to balance the development. Then there is the need to become more active in one's church. More specifically, the good decision to offer mass is always good.

Let us all be ready when The Teacher finally comes in for we are graced - we are in good hands!
