It is interesting to note that one can be a neophyte teacher or a veteran mentor but we are basically the same in pursuing the mission. Indeed an anonymous writer was correct when he/she declared teaching is the  State noblest deed. Every teacher goes on learning either as a mentor or as a person who teaches.

Take the College of Teacher Education of Bukidnon University, December 4-8 is Education Week for us and today, being December 7, is Demonstration Teaching Contest with me as one of the judges. continuation in the next blog . . .

In the meantime, may I know if you agree with the criteria or are their comments you can give?

Most teachers remain teacher until they reach their sixties and if the law were amended to their eighties or nineties. Others are meant to do so but others are better retired once they reach their sixties and for good reasons.

One reason is for sanity. We can hardly accept the situation when pupils or students seem to become more hard headed as ever. The instruction goes: Write your name and time of class and date and day when exam was given otherwise some deduction is charged. Expect a number who do not follow it. Another reminder is given: a test will be given anytime so make sure to read the notes. Expect a number who continue to get fives or failing scores. For us teachers, instructions are sometimes "everything" but for a number of students or pupils: they could not care less.

Another reason if for mental stability. The spelling crisis goes on so words like its when it is supposed to be it's or there when it is supposed to be their or truely when it is supposed to be truly and all of them are in their junior or senior year in college. As ever we, the teachers, go berserk and ask where in the elementary to high school to college levels was weak.

Last reason is for posterity and practicability. After years of teaching, it is becoming clear that teachers can only do so much so let the others take over. In the meantime another world awaits: retirement years which can be another field of endeavor. a new love? a new culture? Perhaps, another set of years when another career is bound to make the senior citizens feel younger and live another realm of possibilities.

Teacher's teacher and fellow mentors, let us seize the day!

It is comforting to note that when there are many crises that come to light, the teacher is one who is asked what she can say about all the havoc currently happening in the world.

Being one of the teachers then, she takes it upon herself to say something too. So let us begin with the world scene. One cannot but say that there is indeed havoc in the world and the turmoil is becoming not only spiritual but nuclear and chemical and all other ways and means to vent one's hatred towards one person or a country. While it is daunting it is also coming to terms with what the world will have to end with. It is not yet heaven so gradually the whole world must accept that whatever is out there can also be a means of believing more and loving even more.

Then we come to our national scene and one country or another is seen struggling with its financial crisis and all other multifaceted problems that haunt everyone else. We ask ourselves what we are doing and if we allow it continue without lifting a finger. As a Filipino, we have many unfinished businesses that beset our country the latest of course is the so-called Zamboanga conflict caused by Moro National Liberation Front Nur Misuari faction that attacked the city. You just have to google it to get all the horrific details. One's gut will really be turned upside down just watching the pain caused by the conflict. Many died and many more are injured especially those displaced. The queries in the eyes of the families who have nowhere o turn to but their faith in their government and generous persons and God are too painful to bear.

The regional and local scenes are not exactly without their own troubles. Certainly persons are basically the same so when they love then we have peace but when they hate then we know all the gory details of  killing and murder and the like.

So teacher, what can you and I say about all the havoc in the world? We have only to begin where we are to know that our vocation as teachers places us in a unique sphere to make a difference. Before us are our pupils and students who are the future leaders of this world. Let us mold them not as robot but as beings made in the image and likeness of God Almighty who have been given the mission to act as stewards of this world while it lasts. As in the article "The Noblest Deed" we can tell the Maker that we have taught the engineers, the lawyers, the doctors, the nurses, the scientists, teachers, writers, businessmen, photographers, chemists, technicians, nutritionists (all other courses out there) and to Him we return the glory.

Teacher'steacher has been away for quite sometime because of many commitments and other side activities but she professes with the Girl Scouts all over the world that "once a girl scouts, always a girl scout"since she is after all a Girl Scout too that she remains a teacher forever. What a way to say just to come backto the blogging scene. As though to say in with a faraway look that if at all possible, to use the tone of the Girl Scouts all over the world, once a blogger always a blogger?

So how has life been with you fellow netizens? This teacher, being two years away from retirement, the magicdate being July 1, 2015, intends to do better in her newfound love of blogging. If you continue to read Malaybalayan.blogspot.com why not?

Teacher'steacher will try to inspire her writing enthusiasm by labeling today as the new zest to keep the faith.  Teachers all over the world, let us bind each other and renew the vigor of communicating internationally and locally.

Today, September 1 is only the beginning . . .

It is June 12, Independence Day, so all Filipinos find themselves an extra holiday to enjoy with loved ones. In particular, teachers find an extra day to be with families.

Teachers should incorporate this event in their present and future lessons. In the course of time, significance of Independence from invaders and colonizers is not given its due emphasis. Time does this since time is always short. We never give time enough for memorable events. We have to strike our breasts in "mea culpa" as to the many occasions we do not thank God enough for the extended time.

At the moment however, let us just focus on June 12, the time when Independence was given to every Filipino. We look at each other and we raise our heads up to The Almighty for the great gift.

There is one vocation that is so easy to go into but the hardest when the time for retirement comes. As you may well have guessed by now, it is teaching.

Teacher, what do you say about birthdays? about life? about schooling? These are only few talking points that are hurled to every teacher for it is expected of the teacher to know just about everything.

So about birthdays, this teacher is glad to share. This coming July 4, her son will visit just to celebrate all the birthdays of his siblings and his senior mom. March, April, May and July birthdays to be given a special touch by just being together. This is what birthdays are supposed to be for - a special day to be celebrated with loved ones. The cakes and the special food recipes are just the icing of the love that oozes when the family and friends join forces in praying for good health and more blessings from the Almighty who alone knows how birthdays keep coming.

About life, this teacher has 62 years of witnessing to it.  Life makes us reflective of the routine we go through everyday for sometimes life can be taken away all of a sudden and it may or may not be too late.  Experts say life is what you make it but ultimately life is really life with loved ones and friends and what comes out of it.

About schooling, this teacher has begun teaching when she was 19 years but she cannot exactly say she has made an excellent use of all the years. Now that she is preparing for her retirement on July 1, 2015 she cannot say she has done what she could have done very easily and end as a doctor of something. Still she had 20 years of married life with Boni  which gave her Irene, Ben, Chev and Bon and this alone is what birthdays, life and schooling is about.

Teacher Reina, what have you learned? This lifetime says it all and thank you God for all these years.

A school year is a long time while summer is such a short one. Like it or not it is back to school this June 3, 2013 for public schools and June 10 for private schools. Amidst this scenario are our minds, fellow mentors, set on the inevitable that as teachers we have another school year.

Bent on welcoming it or not, we have to welcome another school year. Let us then set our minds on it and when June 3 or June 10 comes, let us embrace it.

Early this morning of May 13, 2013, Teacher'teacher used her right to vote. It was a nice sight to behold that the proceedings were relatively peaceful. Very prominent is the way the voters went about their right to choose their leaders. In fact as Teacher'steacher took time to look around, she could not help but wish for the best of this blooming country, beloved Philippines. Imagine if you were a candidate and the majority would put you up there as their representative. It would realay be a great privilege and an honor to serve.

Teacher'steacher hopes the politicians knew exactly why they ran. There should be no place for vote buying  because the citizens deserve only the best. So goes the day and we pray there are no more of the violence which had been announced. Imagine  52,014,648 registered voters who went about the  344,522 precincts. PCOS machines may work or not and definitely there would many discussions as to why we had to use these machines if there was budget for better ones. However, Filipinos have learned to make do with things.
If there is a breed of people who is famous for its patience and understanding, these are my co-Filipinos.

So Teachers, be proud of the voters this 2013 election time, we have educated voters. This coming school year, 2013-2014, we can proudly say we have more of them who will take care of this country who is fast becoming more aware that the country is the citizen's responsibility.

Life has ways of giving each person a place in the sun. For teachers who are also mothers, they are given a rare opportunity to rear and form the children given to them by God following the right path of life.

To all the Teachers and at the same time Mothers all over the world, Happy Mother's Day on this special day, May 12, 2013, one day before 2013 election time in the Philippines.

More than ever before, teachers tell the world their unique vocation to mold the children and offer them chances to develop themselves according to their capabilities.

May this day last a lifetime to remind the teachers they have become co-creators with the Makers by virtue of their patience and humility to be there for the child no matter what.

Teachers and Mothers, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Call it external influence but Teacher'steacher has been fortunate enough to meet a lot of young bloggers and what a heart warming experience it was. Are there more teachers out there who are also interested to remain teachers but are also bloggers like Teacher'steacher?

Today, May 11, Saturday, was another external opportunity where this teacher was just awed at how the young bloggers congregated in Rey's Grill and without much fun fare, brought out their tools and went through Blogging 101. Do contact Mindanaoan.com if you are interested so your group can have the same experience this group just had, all FREE.

So fellow teachers, leave a comment and see you in future informal gathering like the one we just had with Mindanaoan.

There are many things to do now that it is summer. Sad to say however, teachers do not have many opportunities to see a movie or two. This is understandable because by now most of them are preparing for the opening of classes School Year 2013-2014.

Take it from a fellow mentor while the aforementioned is understandable, come what may, you deserve a movie or two. So the question goes, have you seen a movie lately teacher?

The ones this teacher saw were Identity Theft and Iron Man 3 which really made her laugh, cry and laugh again and again. Indeed, movies do take you away from the everyday monotony of living the ordinary way.

So let us loosen ourselves fellow mentors and go see a movie! You deserve it!!

It is already April 26, 2013 so four days more and it is goodbye April. This means May is before us and when 13 comes it is election time. Teachers, parents, sectoral leaders, concerned citizens, have we inculcated in our voters the power they have come election time?  It is this empowerment that should be the key in deciding according to a well-informed choice. Gone are the days when voters are given their rightful place by buying their votes.

Other countries are also holding their elections so the Philippines is not alone in telling the world that democracy is very much alive in our place. Election is a very vital sign that democracy is here to stay.

Since our homes are where we are as our real selves, teaching one's capacity to choose according to one's conscience should begin there. Thus there is no more time to lose then. Let us focus our attention on our loved ones who are now adults. Let them vote accordingly.

See you then in election centers. Let democracy take its course.

Bukidnon Council of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines hopes to revive the hope that deep down in the hearts of all lady teachers, they are really Girl Scouts in thought, word and deed. Why not? After all the Girl Scouting Movement hopes to mold the young girls to become well-rounded talents and useful citizens of society.

This week, Teacher'steacher has been appointed as Officer-in-Charge of the office in the absence of the Council President who is presently with the girl campers in Quezon for the National Encampment.  Many will transpire in the succeeding days and if every event happens, this blogger-girl scout will update you, beloved readers. In the meantime, please help out in encouraging the parents to register their girls to join the Girl Scouting Movement. This is one decision they will not regret.

We can expect more girls to become girl scouts if all lady teachers are deep in their hearts, Girl Scouts in thought, word and deed. Welcome to the fold!

It is not very difficult to understand why we have to celebrate birthdays but what do birthdays teach us may not come by easily.

We must celebrate birthdays because as the word implies you are still alive on a day that heralds your existence. What does this special occasion teach us? It teaches us that days are not always the same. There are days and there are days. Birthdays are no ordinary days for of all the days, your birthday stands out as the day that is special for the heavens chose it for you to come to this world and join mankind.

Birthdays are days of rejoicing and celebrating. No wonder the term is no longer birthday celebrant but birthday celebrator.  The celebrant is a celebrator of the day when life is greater than death. What does this celebration teach us? It teaches us us how to be a celebrator of humility and gratitude that life is worth all the pain no matter how low it can get. We have to ask questions but there are moments when questions need not be asked just accepted.

So birthday celebrators, we join you in your love feasts. To Emilita, to Lucita, to Irene and to all the April birthday celebrators, let your birthdays teach you joy and joy and joy on your most significant time.

Our world today is very demanding and its technological advances cannot promise to offer the gadgets how to make it through marital blues and blows.

In fact, years of marital bliss teach every married couple the reason why they manage to embrace life through thick and thin. While the number of years being married does not become a guarantee, it can hold on to the promise that another day will be another teaching moment to improve for the better.

Let us then pat the shoulders of our colleagues who pursue the paths of righteousness and hold on to the commitment of remaining faithful no matter the odds. Why not? Every marriage is not just an affair between the husband the wife. My twenty-year marriage taught me, for example, that the bitter pill of tensions and outbursts become necessary ingredients of true love. Hold on even if left to our devices, it is unbearable. That's why there is a third party in this relationship - the Supreme Being who blesses the relationship which became a commitment blessed in God's name.

It is therefore without hesitation this teacher blogger attests that years of marital bliss teach us why every married couple embraces life through and thin.

Some think that to travel is to go abroad. We should know by now this is not the case. Already, life is a lifelong travel, a journey. Along the way as one poem states we reach a junction and decide whether to choose a road less traveled or follow the usual easy route.

What are some of the learning insights travels bestow on us? Many and some are: One, the mere fact of going out of our comfort zone and doing so realize that there is much more to where I am situated. Two, the temptations and decisions to be made along the way. Three, development of a grateful heart that there are more good people than bad ones. Four, the capacity to learn the ways of other people and in so doing, work with their differences and feel relieved for knowing our similarities. Five, a confirmation that life has so much more to offer and therefore there is always more to learn.

Do share your own learning insights  and together learn from each other. Anyone?

It is unfortunate but it is a reality, anywhere in the world, respect for the older ones particularly their aunts, is fast fading. Even in the Philippines which is famous for its Filipino Values, respect for the elderly as one of the most basic values, is on its down trend. This prods us to ask how do you teach your children how to respect their aunts and ask forgiveness if there is need?

Teacher'steacher considers this a fundamental problem and needs fundamental response. For one, teaching should not be seen as something that is just told to the children there and then. Teaching starts at home and is followed up in schools and in the bigger community. It goes back to the values practiced by parents and their children as they live as a family. The need to follow this up when the children go astray is constant for once the children make friends or go to school the children's need for guidance and clarification might be in order.

Sometimes when the younger people talk as though they do not have respect for the elderly, the reaction of the elders borders on desperation. Some just leave this on Karma and let life make the disrespectful ones learn the hard way. Since the elderly wants the younger ones to ask forgiveness and it is not forthcoming, the elderly can again only look up to the heavens for vindication.

No wonder we always say we are not yet in heaven and however good this earth may be, it will always fall short of what awaits us in Heaven with God. There, there is no need for respect and to ask forgiveness for there is no need. May we all see each other there fellow teachers.

Years ago, Ma'am Carmen C. Unabia came to my life. She was one of my professors and she solidified my desire to pursue teaching as my career. Many years later, she visited my life once again when she prodded me to go on with teaching and make sure to do well in the field.

When I got married she came again to my life when she inspired me to hold on to the relationship no matter what. I did, until my husband of twenty years passed away after more than a year of sickness. As a widow, Mom Carmen's words would pop in and tell me I was up to any challenge whatever it takes.

When I revived my membership with the Girl Scout Movement, she was there again as a member and an officer. Both of us received awards for serving the Bukidnon Council for the past nine years and going. Very recently, the family of Mom Carmen received an award, as a Ching  clan, to acknowledge the service of the Ching family for so many years.

Now, Dr. Carmen Ching Unabia, has passed away. This afternoon, April 9, 2013, we will hold a scout's own as Girl Scout volunteers. I am requested to give some words of testimonial because everybody knows how she has become part of my maturation and  development as a person. While I am not yet sure what I will say, this blog will already tell you, fellow teachers, the great respect I have for Mommy.

To you Mommy, I think you can read this now wherever you are, like my husband Boni whom you have met, you embodied the Girl Scout Promise and Law:

On my honor, I will do my duty, to God and my country
to help other people at all times and
to live by the Girl Scout Law.

Mommy, God speed. Your Life is what we want to achieve when our time comes. God be with you. Rest in the Peace that God is giving you now. We miss so but we know you can be with us anytime anywhere now that God has given you the reward of eternal life.

Families are complex groups of people. If not for the truth that when everything comes to pass, only God knows who is truly genuine and deserving of eternal happiness with Him in his Kingdom.

Having said the aforementioned context, pain is a very good teacher of life's genuine challenge to see the joy just waiting to be unveiled. Take the case of a relative who went out of her way to take into her fold a niece who has nowhere to go. She has children to take care of, so to be in a foreign country is like living in desert. Developed countries have this standard of living to mind your own business. Unless you happen to have neighbors with big hearts, you are really on your own This nice lady however is a christian and as it happened the young mother with children stayed in her apartment for months. Then came the time when the young mother borrowed cash which amounted to a huge sum but trusting that if better times come as agreed upon, she would be paid.

Then the time came when the mom and kids have to leave for after all there is a father who is supposed to contribute his share of feeding the kids. It seemed the mother got a job and life must have smiled brightly because they did not go back to their aunt's place. Without pointing out all the details, complexity arose when there was miscommunication in relaying manifestations of concern. It happened that the aunt who helped not only the mom with children but also a sibling who is sick with capital C. In the complex web of life's realities, the young mom happens to be the daughter of the sibling-brother. The culprit was the relayed information that it looked like the children of the sick sibling were blamed for not taking care of the capital C. The aunt who sent help seemed to be alluded as saying the children were instrumental in letting the condition become dangerous. All along what the aunt wanted to say was to ask why was the condition not observed early enough and why did not everybody prevent it to happen. Nobody was supposed to be blamed.

So now the state of affairs is the complex entanglement of who said what to whom. Now we offer to the best listener the intricacy of all the data and pray that one day, the real culprit is humble enough to apologize.

Pain is a very good teacher of life's genuine challenge to see the joy just waiting to be unveiled.

Nothing compares to the angst that haunts your whole being when a loved one is in the hospital and is battling sickness. Every movement of a sick person is labored. This leaves the caregiver incapacitated too. Learning is so painfully clear amidst hospitals and sickness. This scenario teaches anyone who loves to take time and reflect.

Teacher's teacher is life itself.

With Parasat Cable here in Malaybalay City,Province of Bukidnon trying to do its share in giving better service to their cable subscribers we are now watching live the 70th Globe Awards. Somehow it becomes a way - a vehicle to dream big and teach better once you see people being recognized for doing their best.

In my present condition, my daughter and only girl among the four siblings is not feeling well so I find myself praying to high heavens to use my hands as a way to help her feel well. It is one instance when, like the films that are being acknowledged and awarded for excellence, I also offer with all my heart my hands so that God's healing power will be bestowed upon me.

You know this is one teaching moment for my beloved daughter and I to go through life's trials for her sickness reminds us of the many ordinary things we take for granted. After this ordeal, we hope to look at life more differently and more lovingly.

So the Globe Awards even had a surprise presenter: President Bill Clinton. Remember his wife, Hillary Clinton, sent through sickness that made her decide enough is enough an that it is time to stay with her family more. No wonder President Bill Clinton was invite because one of the nominated films is about President Abraham Lincoln.

Let us go back to the basics: let us look hard on our loved ones with love. Anything can happen but when the family is around and with us:life is bearable and meaningful.
