Did you notice something different this New year celebration fellow blogger teachers? If there something noticeable and might prove to be a teaching moment, it is a new outlook people give to celebrations.

One factor am sure is the financial constraints every person is experiencing wherever you are. While it is depressing it is also a learning opportunity. From now on, only those that truly matter are given significance. Even the major catastrophes cannot deny every well meaning person the chance to reflect on what is truly happening. Today for example, intensity 7 earthquake rocked Japan. Days ago, the Philippines experienced intensity 5. What other countries experience are other forms of earthquakes like protests which are so fierce, deaths have been reported. In Valencia Bukidnon,Philipplines, typhoons came after another typhoon had caused thousands of lives lost in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. All other upsets have visited a community one way or another and this leaves us fearing for our lives.

This day then, let us savor the first day of the New Year and pray that, with God as our sole protector and always a loving Father of us all, will bless the world with another zest for hope and say with a Happy Tone: Welcome 2012!

Many have experienced calamities during Christmas but when the victims are people you know or are from a place you always go to, the impact is different. One thing is sure: this Christmas of 2011, the Teacher in us has much to offer in terms of realizations while the Learner in us has much to ponder upon.

This blogger was in a beauty salon yesterday when one customer came in and without difficulty pointed us her hands, filled with the remnants of sticky mud and the indescribable trauma she shared when they were on top of their house, waiting for the water to subside. They did not even realize that while they were there hopelessly waiting for the water to "go away", they were unable to plan for the next thing to do if they would be overcome by the current. Now, looking back, they could laugh at their faces and the things they brought. She remembered carrying rice but she knew they could not cook it.  She remembered literally carrying the refrigerator with her mom but forgot to save more important things like their dresses. For sure, they were able to come out of it with only their clothing they have put on  as wearable for all the rest were littered with sticky mud and could not imagine washing it or bringing it to a laundry shop. Now, her family has transferred to another place, here in Bukidnon, where they really come from - 3 hour ride away from Balulang , Cagayan de Oro City. They could not bring themselves to go back and get what can still be saved - not now, perhaps after Christmas when the realization and pondering are thought through. Her story is already worse but according to my children who have decided to play active roles as volunteers, others did not lose only their things but all their loved ones: spouses, children, parents. Death was everywhere and for the many days they were there, food is not what they need this Christmas.

My children have come home and shared with this blogger that indeed this Christmas the Teacher in us has much to offer in terms of realizations  while the Learner in us has much to ponder upon. The good food already served at table remained uneaten because they say they are not hungry just weary and sad for the victims who have not much to eat and a long way to restore their lives especially their sanity.

Christmas is definitely beyond the pain life's challenges put before each person but an event to allow Jesus Christ to be born in our hearts - in our lives.

Everybody calls her Ma'am Fely and for a very long time, she taught and retired when she reached 63 years old. She was sickly but she never let her sickness stop her from visiting others who are also not feeling well. This is her legacy: to be a teacher and a friend to as many who need her badly or just that she feels she has to see for herself how they are doing.

When the teachers and non-teaching personnel went to her house and pray for her, every person knew from his/her heart that Ma'am Fely will be missed but knowing that she is safe in the hands of God, her Maker and Savior,  we have to let go for to be with God is our place. She is 67 years young but death knows no age only that God has called you to be with Him.

Ma'am Fely, rest in peace and please now that you are with our God help us who are still journeying as pilgrims on earth.

Imagine 61 years old and soon - like July 1 - and Teacher's teacher with God's consent, turn 62. For elderly people, every moment in a senior citizen's life is a teaching moment.  It is of the moment therefore that Teacher's teacher's wishes revolve around deeper focus on realities that truly  matter and await the New Year - 2012 - with newness.

1 Corinthians 13:1-13 teach us the importance in spiritual gifts for at the end, there are only three things that last: faith, hope and love; and the greatest of these is love. In the earlier verses, it reminds us: "When I was a child, I used to talk like a child and think like a child, and argue like a child, but now I am a man (woman?, person? ) all childish ways are put behind me. Now we are seeing a dim reflection in a mirror; but then we shall be seeing face to face. The knowledge that I have now is imperfect; but then I shall know as fully as I am known . . ." Every word is a very deep reality that will take a lifetime to fathom. All other realities should be anchored on these truths that every reflector has a lifetime to ponder upon.

May this coming New Year (imagine 2012!) be faced with Newness, with greater candor and enthusiasm and with gratitude. Thank you God for this Christmas, 3 days more to go and thank you God for this coming 2012. The world can sometimes be a good place to dwell on and spend the rest of one's days but more and more, life teaches us that it is not this world that one should expect to life forever; it is a life that only faith can prepare one for, a life only God can give to a believer.

Again and again, while Christmas is not yet fully here, 3 days more to go . . . Christmas cheers from Teacher's teacher and then on, Happy New Year 2012!

How many times do we see all these unexpected deaths and a long list of the missing once a calamity strikes and always we can only gasp at how painful this causes to those concern and to happen few days before Christmas. Moments, like this, are those teaching moments when nothing can fill the pain and gnawing pain that every member of the family feels. No amount of empathy can replace the emptiness that is now lingering in the hearts of children, fathers, mothers who lost their parents, children or relatives.

Teacher's teacher is at a loss how to express her concern in her own little way. Today is one attempt at doing something more concrete. She has volunteered to join Mindanaoan, BukidnononLine and Bukidnon Bloggers in their plan to go to Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao Philippines and share whatever they can come up with and help. Do step us fellow bloggers and anybody out there who wants to help somehow. Contact us and together we can make the small things big enough to fill a void nobody can replace. It is part of the teaching insights we learn when we help in whatever capacity - no amount of material thing can replace the pain and emptiness that overpower the present emotional state of those experiencing the fatalities. Still, it is not the material things that matter but the capacity to reach out to others in their time of need that lives on and makes us hope for better things.

Typhoon Sendong  had come and left its devastation but the hearts of believers are kept alive by their faith. The many deaths and those who are missing left behind the imprints of unanswered questions why it must happen but the teaching reality stays: We move on because our Faith tells us. Somehow, in time, however long it may be - we receive our answers slowly and gradually accept why many of the truths are best "kept in one's hearts" as Mother Mary did when she could not understand.

To all the families who are in pain, please accept our prayers for your loved ones.

We sort of take for granted the many good things that keep on coming to our land until events like flash floods, heinous crimes and various disasters come to our shores. While the disasters cause lives and crimes make the bad side of man get the better of us all, what do they teach us deep down it all? It teaches us that we are not doing enough; we just push through with our indifference.

Take the most recent Typhoon, Sendong, the most affected areas are in Mindanao. Gwen Pang, Secretary General of Red Cross spoke to ANC and confirmed the death toll in Cagayan de Oro City andIligan City that reached more than 134 and 200 more declared missing. The next move is to ship goods to help the families. GMA reports 71 died in Cagayan De Oro City alone while 100 plus missing.

President Pinoy also did his share by calling an emergency meeting. He pointed out that there are long-range solutions but at the moment the most urgent is relocation and relief to the families. DSWD confirmed it has enough goods to help the victims.

Disasters teach us what we, as the stewards of creation, are not doing enough. Deforestation has been cited as one of the main causes of flash floods and this has been knownfor quite sometime now. Yet we know for a fact proactive solutions are not that abundant.

Just when many teachers are not so happy with President Pinoy's cash gift, from ten thousand (P10,000) to five or six thousand if your salary has reached P30,000, here is another President Pinoy's order to LGUs not to give cash gift to teachers who are nationally paid. Definitely Malacanang knows how hard times are and any additional cash gift will be a welcome one. There seems to be a desire to straighten the way especially those which have been taken lightly by agencies. Perhaps the administration should move a little bit more humanely. If the salaries are all enough for the teachers' needs then they are sure to accept these drastic changes. President Pinoy: a little allowance in the spirit of Christmas. Give proper information and prepare the people well ahead of time. As of now we signed to accept what is due but anything beyond P30,000 will be subject to withholding tax. A Christmas bonus is a bonus because it is an indirect way of saying thank you for a job well done so if it is a bonus let it be free from tax. It is like giving it but taking it back some other way.

Another sad point is the Collective Negotiating Agreement: if before savings of the institution get back bigger than 50% now DBM will retain 20% and 30% for another purpose and to be given back is only 50%. Again, at a time when the spirit of giving and sharing should e the embracing spirit in the season of love: the people for whom all the government efforts are directed are the very same people who will benefit. Why? Why? Why?

Some teachers advance that perhaps the legal status of our President as single is a factor why he cannot fathom the real situation of married couples and other breadwinners. Then the fact that he was born rich makes him less sensitive to what the real score is in the day to day financial struggle that families have to address. Does the President know how much take home pay every teacher really takes home? We make fun of the favorite tour country every teacher visit: London (which really refers to Loan Doon, Loan Dito) so the so-called payslip testifies to the payments spread out to so many loan "doon" loan "dito" so the deduction takes almost the entire salary and the meager amount placed under net income is painful to look at and how far it can go.

Cash gift from LGUs this Christmas: Sorry no more according to President Pinoy is ill-advised. Teachers however, by virtue of their being teachers, feel badly but somehow manage to smile and say Well - - - that's life, "parang buhay". . . "Weather weather" lang yan.

May this blog reach the eyes of those concerned.

CNN featured live the event today: the last day (up to December 31?) of the U.S.troops in Iraq. Clicking on, all other networks carried the story. For us viewers all over the world, the feeling is a mixture of joy that a country has been given back its sovereignty but anxiety because Iraq will have to stand up to its plate. This makes any concerned citizen of the world to offer honor to a great country, the United States of America for every mission it offers to those in need. We may not always agree with what troops do especially when they seem to take over another territory but what if there is no U.S. aid in the form of its troops? Other countries shout their protests and we can understand why yet we now for a fact how others also shout louder their plea for help. Imagine the lives that have been offered in the name of freedom.

Teachers, like me, bring this scenario to the classroom for deeper discussions. In my classes for example, especially in Peace Education, we feed it to the minds of the young leaders. The feedback is not exactly inspiring but at least the idea has been planted: We belong to one world so we must care even it all we could do is talk about it.

Whatever is your take of the troops especially the U.S. troops and all the other troops who came before, during and after, especially those who died for the cause, there is no way we can deny the fact that they cared and did something about it, at the cost of their lives and finances - amounting to billions of dollars. We, the viewers and fellow citizens of the same world pay tribute to all the troops- to the U.S. troops - and say with sincerity thank you for making the world a safer place to live in.

A Teacher's wish this Christmas

Teaching is a  mission and a vocation. Unlike a non-teaching personnel, the work of a teacher is non-stop. This is heightened by the realities of life like being parents or bread winners. So when Christmas comes along, a Teacher's wish is to have enough time with loved ones and enough money in one's hands. It was therefore good news for teachers when the Philippine government announced with all its glory that the teachers will receive ten thousand pesos. Yet already the whispers are a brewing that it is not really the amount as promised for the said amount will be TAXED. If there is anything that should be given freely and with love, it is a bonus. It comes at a time when love is in the air and the spirit is to make the employees happy especially the teachers.  This then is this teacher's wish this Christmas: that Secretary Abad with the approval of President Pinoy to announce with all clarity that every employee, every teacher, receives the whole amount PERIOD. Let this season think of the families and for once, no tax please.

Let us join in the wish and our wish will surely not go unheeded. Merry Christmas Secretary Abad and Mr. President!

One's nationality is not the sole source of becoming a hero but one's humanity. Efren Penaflorida is Filipino and the first CNN Hero and now Robin Lim,Filipino-American working in Indonesia is another CNN hero. Life is what you make of it and all other trimmings are just ways of helping you out in doing better at what you are doing.

This is life's teaching moment: heroism begins in one's heart: the desire to reach out to others and in so doing find one self. We have many heroes in the world: foremost are our parents who love us unconditionally. More admirable are parents who become parents not because they bear the children but through adoption become the parents of the children. Whatever is your state in life, what matters is to live life to the fullest and hero or not, you have ultimately speaking, become hero in your own right.

To all the heroes, God be with you! Thank you God for giving them to mankind.

Are you? If you are, please reserve December 27-29, 2011 for we the graduates of Bukidnon Normal School, way back 1940's to 1980's; Bukidnon State College way back 1980's to 1990's and Bukidnon State University, from 2000's to the present will have a grand reunion. The dates alone will tell you how grand.

Feel free to contact this blog through your comment if you are one of us but may not be able to come personally since you are now somewhere in another place scattered all over the world (what a term but what an achievement many graduates have achieved!) This blogger had been away from her alma mater since 1072 and only came back when fate destined it. Indeed destiny had a role to play for after teaching for so many years in different schools, am now one of the faculty members of the College of Teacher Education of Bukidnon State University and recently designated as the Guidance Counselor. Along the way, generous people like Ma'am Linda, Ma'am Remy and Sir Vic helped a lot in bringing me back to my native home, my land of birth and my alma mater. Hopefully, I will retire from the university in 2015 whether this blogger likes it or not (can you guess why?)

So are you by chance, a graduate of Bukidnon Normal School? a graduate of Bukidnon StateCollege? or a graduate of Bukidnon State University? Let us celebrate our homecoming on December 27-29, 2011 if not physically - at least spiritually . . . If you want to reach out do write in the comment portion and this blogger will give you more information. Initial responders? See ya!

Being designated the guidance counselor of the College of Teacher Education is a major turning point in my teaching career. Expect allusion to some guidance discussion points in the future. Hopefully if inspired enough this blogger will manage another focused mainly on Guidance and Counseling.

Since December 5-9, 2011 is Education Week of the College of Teacher Education, the Guidance Office, in coordination with the Study Body Organization is holding a symposium that will discuss in depth two major issues that seem to beset young people nowadays: suicide and unwanted pregnancy. In the future, we hope to deal more with human relationships or human sexuality of which many other topics will be covered.

Teachers and Guidance Counselors, all over the worlds, we should meet in blogosphere. Please tag me or invite me to your blospots and websites. Here is one waiting for your click.

Filipinos catholics and other catholics all over the world celebrate first Friday devotion.Source tells us that the devotion is in relation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is believed that Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary and spoke to her of His Sacred Heart. Among the promises is a teaching moment especially to every believer who prepares not only for this earth but also for life after: "All my powerful love will grant to those who will receive communion for 9 consecutive months the grace of final repentance - they will not die in my displeasure and my Heart will be their refuge to that last moment . . .." For true believers, this devotion does not only last for 9 months but  forever.

For the young and the elderly, this devotion reminds us of the time when nothing else matters but the Savior's Hand when the time of death comes. This is one teaching moment that should not be left to chance for if there is one reality that does not escape every person, it is death. Let it be taught also that the devotion is not solely to prepare for death but mainly to live a live so full that tomorrow can take care of itself if today is well lived.

Now this blogger has to prepare for school and join the others who will offer mass in the gymnasium of Bukidnon State University, Malaybalay City, Province of Bukidnon, Philippines.

Filipinos are noted for its values and one of these is bayanihan (helping one another). In the present incident we talk of twenty-five centavo coins donated by all sectors of society lined up in the open field of Quirino Grandstand. It is a way of helping build more schools and other projects while hoping to beat United States in the Guinness record of lining up cents as long as 64.8 kilometers. The organizers declared they have surpassed this very long line of cents (70 kms. long!) so let us wait for (we hope) not a very long time the declaration from the Guinness team that the Philippines made it.

For us teachers what is more important is the intention behind the bayanihan. Imagine the help that will go a long way. Many volunteered and this is the real reason for celebration when volunteers get together to tell the whole world that big things begin with small things: twenty-five centavos can reach millions when every donor shares much. In the meantime, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is happy that the "lowly" twenty-five centavos have come back to be "recognized" as it hopes to build noble projects for the use of the less fortunate wherever they may be.

To all donors and volunteers: May your tribe increase and God bless!!!

Whether you teach in the elementary, high school, college or post graduate levels, the challenge is the same: let us talk about Aids in our classes especially today, December 1: WORLD AIDS DAY. There is no doubt education is still one of the most effective ways to prevent aids. Even its dream to develop vaccine against aids will come from the education sector where geniuses are nurtured.

Education, from the Latin word educere or educare, which means to lift up and this alone tells us the vital role education plays in every facet of a person's life. It cannot be denied though that so many of the crises have bombarded humanity nowadays. All these range from personal, political to environmental-cultural social  and in some cases they overlap that our hope for better days and faith in God are our only reasons to hold on.

This idea of hoping and believing is also a good point of discussion in our classes. Teachers, Mabuhay ka! Long Live the teachers!!!

The Guidance Office of the College of Teacher Education in one university coordinates with its Student Body Organization to hold a symposium or panel discussion that will deal with issues young adults are confronted with. Two issues have surfaced for this gathering: Suicide and Unwanted Pregnancy.

Why suicide? While the university does not say that there are many cases of suicide, now and then, we hear of some of the students who died not of natural causes but of suicide. A particular incident this blogger saw for herself was the case of a seventeen year old male freshman who committed suicide by taking "insecticide". The mother whom we met in the funeral home related that her son did not give her reason to be worried about but she asked apology from the son that perhaps she did not do her best to find out. She told her son as he laid there in the coffin to forgive them but to please not to let go of Jesus who alone can understand why he did what he did. Many more incidents were shared by both parents that when we left, we made a promise to hold some kind of forum where young people will hear more about suicide.

Why unwanted pregnancy? Well, due to some Magna Carta for the protection of women, students who get pregnant without being married is not enough ground tob e suspended by the university. So we do find many students, from first year college to fourth year, sometimes, high school students or few elementary pupils who get pregnant who are too young to understand what they are going through but they going to become parents themselves. Before this situation becomes worse that it already is, a thorough discussion about male-female relationships, some of which lead to unwanted pregnancy, might follow the guidance principle: "Prevention is better than cure." From our end, we can think of it as a proactive response to more issues that also need equal attention. Future blogs will share the salient points  the resource speakers will tell the audience. Can you share some insights?

As mentors, any event can be an opportunity to teach so in this regard, with November about to end, December is inevitable to grace us once again. This early, what is a food for thought to think in advance before it finally comes?

That December is just any month that follows the month before it which is November. It is only when we use December as a special chance to give love especially to those who do not know at all that now Christmas has taken a unique perspective.

This early then, Metanoia (Conversion) is a must which we know we cannot do on our own. We pray for it so that it is given to us as a gift. Advent before Christmas is significant to note.

Allow me to be one of the first persons to greet you " Merry Christ-mas and and a Converted Happy New Year!"

Whether you are from the Philippines or not, the recent events have much to teach every person nowadays.

Let us begin with the "mess ex-President GMA - Who could ever foresee that she would ever be in this situation? Very recently we cleaned one room where her photo as President of the Philippines hang on the wall and then now we see her photos - frail, sick, helpless and everyone saying very unkind words against her. Being a parent and teacher myself, my heart bleeds for her and though sometimes I exchange harsh remarks with colleagues when I show sympathy or empathy, it is worth expressing how people can be very unkind.
Whatever will come out of the saga that is bound to stay for a long time, let us remain generous with our understanding. One day, we might find ourselves somewhat in the same "dilemma" so take time to "hold your horses".

Then we hear the case of RamJen's murder and the "family" chaos that seems to remain mysterious and unsolved as to whether one or two or three have a hand in the death of RamJen. Problems that family members go through are so near  our own experiences, again it is prudent not to be harsh with our remarks. Every family has a story to tell and a history that has so many nuances an outsider cannot fully fathom. The family is where the heart is. So let us always treasure our own family and never take it for granted.

Other countries seem to have other things to face. Egypt is undergoing a transition to move forward. In the process, protesters have been hurt. Libya too has a new government. It needs strong leaders to pursue its desire for change.

To sum up, the Philippine events are not only within its borders for the world now has become so interdependent, we can learn from each other and teach each other as well.

The second semester of SY 2011-2012 is here so November 14 was our first class session. From now on, this blogger's roles have been rolled into one as a teacher, as a parent, as a counselor and as a fellow person. The subjects assigned to this blogger are to her liking: Developmental Reading, Structure of English and Peace Education. Expect future discussions to cover salient points based on these contexts. Do share what you like about any of the coverages.

Today has given many things to ponder upon: In Bukidnon, Mindanao Philippines, an earthquake came in the middle of the night which caused blackout, destruction of some business establishments and anxiety if it comes again. Then just when we thought the earthquake was worth worrying about, somewhere in California, a verdict was handed down: Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson's personal physician guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Piers Morgan in his tv program, Piers Morgan Tonight in CNN, had  legal analysts to find out if the verdict was fair.  Both agreed it was fair. But if you listened to one of Dr. Murray's patients, Dennis Hix, he disagreed for he considered Dr. Murray, the best doctor he ever had. When this scenario happens, you, the viewer, are left with your own devices to understand events as they come to your senses.

So it is worth repeating as to what is the message of this much talked about case to ordinary people. Whatever is your perspective, let it be.We can only hasten to add a dimension which is to focus on the emotions that couple any real setting. "Dura lex, sed lex." (It is difficult but it is the law) says the legal minds so there are salient points that have to be understood according to its context. The emotional aspect comes in when we can only empathize with close relationships that sometimes love gets in the way of being objective. Emotions like concern, care make one go beyond what is expected and sometimes to go beyond can mean go against what is objectively considered legal. Life sometimes is like this. No wonder there is no end to it.

So let it be our food for thought: Let us try to follow the wisdom of the church fathers: "What is usually legal is also moral but in some instances what may be legal is not necessarily moral."

Have you asked this very simple question: What does death teach us while we are alive?

It teaches us that life is good only until death takes over so death teaches us to treasure life because death comes "life a theft in the night" - you are the last one to know death has visited you or me.
It teaches us that death finds meaning only in the realm of faith. If you are not a believer then your philosophy is:  "Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow you will die" but if you are a believer then your philosophy is: " Like Christ one has to die but like Christ you will rise again in God's own time."
It teaches us what truly matters in life:  to do more, give more in order to be more as the great philosophers would say in our behalf but in death: to be in the mercy of God, the Judge.

On the occasion of November 1, All Saints' Day and November 2, All Souls' Day - we are answering the question that death is as important as life, the two days are symbolic of the respect we accord to our beloved dead who are in faith, alive in God's Kingdom.

If there is one things this blogger would like to have it is a television set with a capability to record what is worthy to be viewed again and again. Take the situation in New York. What is the implication  of "occupied Wall Street". Then take the most recent shocking news - death of Gaddafi. What are the repercussions of such death - of a leader who had everything in terms of power and fame - yet was killed by the very people he "served"?

By the way, have you accepted the fact that right in our living room is the source of much information - the tv set? While you are cleaning your home, preparing meals or just sitting down while taking your snacks, you switch on the tv - make sure it is cable - you have before you the world. You become witness to how it is coping with any thing and every thing every other person is going through here, there and everywhere! Can you imagine if you can record all these and see it again, very slowly, ponder upon its nuances and contribute your own share in whatever capacity. Oprah used to give this kind of tv set many times so this Christmas, this blogger has some tv canvassing to do as to what tv set has this feature unless someone out there has read this log and would like to tell me how to get one???

As a teacher, events - like "occupied Wall Street" and "death of a dictator, Gaddafi" - confirm once again what greed can do to many who are struggling to live with bare minimum and how power can destroy anybody who uses it as an end not a means.

Then we come back to where we are and ask: Have I contributed to the misery of my family and community? Have I done enough to control my anger or tendency to manipulate others thereby promote peace among family members and colleagues?

Let us begin small and let us begin where we are . . . Shalom!

Leaders are our role models. So when they die, all the followers are sad. What is lost is not just one life but a life that is difficult to emulate. In the case of Moammar Gadhafi, Libyan prime minister, he must have been a role model one time being a leader. In the course of time, he must have lost this side of him for he wanted absolute power just for himself which is the tendency when power becomes absolute.

What lesson do we get from a person's death? like Gadhafi's death. One is the confirmation that whatever power we possess it is not self-serving but a temporary trust given to you with a consequent accounting of what you have done with it. Another is the fact that life is a one-way traffic such that when our time is up - what follows is no longer ours to decide so we are under the mercy of God's justice. Still another message is the legacy we leave behind. Others rejoice when you die because a tyrant is gone or they are saddened because your presence is always "sunshine after the rain", rainbow after the pain.

Let us always go back to our own lives and reflect on what we have done and are doing with this one life we are given.

To this day, after teaching for more than 30 years, we still meet so-called evaluators who have reserved their comments to be guided only by negative tones. Since we are aware that this person is not even super as a teacher and the over-all "aura" is negative, we can only surmise that it is but inevitable everything that emanates from this person is the opposite of positive. Have you met this evaluator yourself or your workplace has a counterpart? do share . . .

Every person nowadays has to be treasured. Students who are our main clients are our crosses for we as teachers try to give our all but sad to say, their exams are below par. We just hold on to the positive thought that they will "bloom" someday according to their own paces.

My daughter uses Apple computer so she can say with authority how unique the product is. We will not dwell on the superior quality of Apple computer but on the life of Apple's CEO for a long time: Steve Jobs. He dies at the age of 56, not so young but not so old.

For those who have not finished college life, Steve Jobs is an inspiration. He founded Apple. This proves once again that "some people are schooled but not educated". While going to school is always important, it is really what we get from all the class discussions that matter. As a teacher, my heart goes out to those who really go to school with love and care. Some of my students share how happy they are for being able to go to college amidst poverty.

Steve Jobs has many counterparts among filipinos. Perhaps you have already met one. We can also say, Steve Jobs has counterparts among persons of different cultures and races. After all we are made by one God so it is no wonder. Rest in peace Steve Jobs. Your life may have ended but your legacy which is topped by humbleness amidst triumph is a legacy that will last forever.

The information is that September 5 began the celebration of World Teachers' Day and a month later, October 5 ends the month-long celebration. In the Philippines, the Department of Education calls it Teachers' Month Campaign for the spirit is in tune with what World Teachers' month-long celebration.

As a teacher all my life, it is heartwarming to note that the teacher is given this recognition which is always a worthy move. Teacherallherlife.blogspot.com is very grateful for the greetings from friends and students. The texts are both funny and thought-provoking. A message from a friend, colleague and fellow girl scout goes: Pasalamat ka ikaw ay teacher (You should be grateful you are a teacher.)And lawyer pagnagkamali, priso kliyente. (The lawyer once he is wrong, the client goes to jail.) And pari pagnagkamali, sa impiyerno uwi. (The priest once he commits mistakes goes to hell.)Pero and teacher pagnagkamali ERASE THE BOARD lang. (But the teacher once she commits mistakes, all she does is ERASE THE BOARD.)  Happy World Teachers' Day!  The a foregoing is ONLY A JOKE so please smile or laugh and it already serves its purpose.

Personally I am very grateful for the greetings, gifts, bouquets of rose, notes and cards from many friends and students. Sometimes I want to shout with gratitude and in other times, cry and cry for the teacher is loved. Even my own children took time to greet me. Thank you God for thoughtful and gracious friends and loved ones.

This early, 100 days before Christmas 2011, already the feeling of giving love to others is in the air. This is one event all over the world when even the "hardened" at heart will have to give in to the soft side of of a person: the capacity to reach out to others all in the spirit of Christmas.

This blog will focus on good deeds that she observes as the countdown formally begins today and to culminate when Christmas comes and all of mankind sings joyously the Christmas carols.

Today, we expressed our love for our colleague who is celebrating her birthday. A nice lady and well loved by the faculty. We pray that she will receive all of God's blessings and most of all good health which she really likes to maintain and sustain. Happy Birthday Lina!

Why must it be cable television and not just regular tv? and why should it be particularly important for the elderly?
For one, cable tv keeps on running even after 12:00 p.m. unlike regular tv that ends with its sign off feature. So for the elderly it means staying up through the night and waiting or dawn in silence, nothing to lull her to sleep.
Two, there are repeats and so whatever was not seen entirely during the day because of he demands of work will be seen again this time leisurely now that it is past nine or ten or eleven or twelve or one a.m. or two a.m. or three a.m. or four a.m. . . another day . . . another time spent for the day's chores . . .
Those who are not yet elderly, take it form someone who has finally reached it: sleep comes difficult and should it come, it is only for a few hours and it is only with the help of miracles from God that somehow another day comes by sleep or no sleep.
For you out there then who are young and are already bored with life, think again. Take the rare opportunity of being young and live it to the fullest. do not hurry up to grow old. Savor every moment and bloom to your full capacity. Why spend all these chances that come but once to drugs, cigarette smoking, drinking liquor and wasting the night away in bars and questionable night spots? Desiderata reminds you: "Take kindly the counsel of the years . . . nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortunes . . . You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars you have a right to be here . . . With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world . . . Be happy.
As an aside, Google informs us that Desiderata was originally written by Max Ehrmann which for this blogger was a poem written by an anonymous. Now, this anonymous has a name: Max Ehrmann.  Rev. Frederick Kates of St. Paul's Church in Baltimore used tis poem in his devotional materials A.C. 1692 just as we still use it today, more than ever.
For this blogger, cable tv reaches her abode via Parasat for she is here in Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Philippines.
Now, it is already 3:38 A.M. and this blogger is awake. It is good to watch CNN with Piers Morgan then Talk TV then AXN, Blue Blood then 2nd Avenue, Parenthood then Lotus Macao, channel 50, Michael Douglas film.
Thank you inventors for cable tv. Good night or is it Good morning!

Will there be an attack - God forbid, again? We pray, never again, please God.
Ten years ago, I was watching CNN when - like a dream - I saw the two planes hit Twin tower, one after the other. Then news continued saying another one hit a part of Pentagon, what?  Then and now, my feelings never changed - that of shock, shock and shock! I wanted to believe it was just a movie or that it was just one of those slides or clip misplaced or something but never real. A joke?
All these are  memories of September 11 that was an attack on humanity by terrorists. Ten years later, an attempt to re-build a  twin tower as a symbol of moving on. In an Interview with Matt Lauer  in Today, he took time to talk with some of the engineers who confirm that the building is a testament, a statement to rebuild, to recover. The new building will be ready in 2013. I will retire in 2015, Please God, allow me to see the new twin tower!
For us teachers, events like this, give us talking points: Can hatred to humanity be such that persons behind this inhumane attack on mankind  still deserve to live? Where do they come from? an offshoot from hell? What kind of heart and conscience do these plotters have? Do they have any- if at all? If words are not enough at least in thought we can rely on our faith to hold on. Think good, Think God.

May I end with a prayer . . .
God, Father of us all, this is one time when we become one in your name however this name may be.
You made us out of love but sad to say we do not return this love same way - rather we see hatred in kind: attack on the Twin Tower, wars everywhere, hatred among family members, clash among tribes, crimes of various kinds especially against the helpless - the children, destruction and abuse inflicted on Mother Earth, all the other manifestations of sins that are negations of what we are yet  you alone see its reasons for happening.
How can we ever account for all these transgressions? How can we ever look you in the eye without bowing our heads in shame?
Father God, we can only plead for your generosity and endless love. We beg for your mercy.
Lift us up and once again bless this earth you so kindly entrust to us. Visit our hardened hearts and help us know you are there.
Father God, please hear what words can not be said but we utter in faith. You alone know where this world is heading. We offer everything to you- the good and the bad.
You made us out of love but we know you alone know whether we have returned this love or not.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

If one looks hard enough, one finds the disparity of opportunities given to persons. But if one really looks hard enough, we are all equal in the school called life. Our teacher is the same: life as it unfolds.

For the parents the lingering pain is how to deal with the gradual departure of the grown children from the one fold of the family. The earlier a parent accepts this inevitable separation, the better for the child and the parent. Today, for example, Malaybalayan could only hug and say good luck to a beloved son who has to leave for Davao City because a job interview is in the offing. It is painful but it is good news for before long, even the separation is part of the love you have to give, even if it means letting go.

The teacher in each of us is a gift that the school of life generously grants every well-meaning citizen of the world. So, let it be; let us all enroll in the university of life. Everyone becomes both the learner and the teacher: a rather unique blend and no money involved for once.

As the years of teaching become years of dealing with many kinds of young people who will become professionals someday, many thoughts come our way.
However the years have come and gone, however some bosses make or unmake some of your days, you always emerge stronger and more inspired. After all, you meet again these students-turned professionals and share their own stories of victories and failures.
There are groups of young learners who really cause you the headache but reflecting on it again and again, they are just still-in-the-soon to become student teachers and in this limbo, they are lost in the maze of requirements.
Tomorrow, there is a promise to be made when we meet these puzzled students in our care. We will let them know that teachers may say something to "hammer" some points strong enough to challenge them. There is never an intention to underestimate them just the hope they will do better. We will try to  make it known teachers are first persons who care. While we are in this reflection mood, we visited a blog entitled The Best of Teachers Pay Teachers by Teacher Victoria. We left a comment and hope for an exchange of notes someday.
There are many opportunities to become an agent of change and to become a teacher is one of the best opportunities!

We are created equal but along the way, especially in our careers, we have bosses and with their presence, an additional baggage is thrashed on you. This gets more complicated when these bosses who are part of the system of management are those you do not like at all. So how do you deal with them?
Google articles give so many tips, some of which are directed to cubicle warriors. Outlast the boss, vent in a safe place and focus on your performance are some of the thought-provoking ways to get by.
But wait! why do we not like our bosses - not like as against hate - when they are just doing their jobs? This is the crux of the matter. The first reflection point always goes back to us. Are we sure we are the only ones who feel this way? What if the bosses do not also like us. Can you imagine their dilemma too? So this is the way to handle the feeling: feel for the other party and before you know it, the intensity of not liking the boss is greatly minimized.
Feelings are real and fickle so we should not put so much intensity on it. Ventilate. Experience your catharsis but always, get the proper perspective. Bosses need the same ventilation and catharsis. If only we see this then we need not dislike them too much.
The last point is in order. If the focus is on you and not on your boss: your performance and not on the face of your boss, life becomes bearable. Diplomacy can work hand in hand with your new found course of action.
How do you deal with bosses whom you do not like? Deal with yourself  first and before you can entertain the  negative feeling, you have overcome it after all. Life is more than all the bosses in the world who do not deserve the best in you. Smile fellow workers!

Nowadays life seems to pass by faster and difficult to keep pace. Life is teaching us to slow down and "smell the roses" so to speak. If it is possible, take the time out to go on retreat somewhere in the mountains - if it is still possible. Perhaps it comes more urgently for the elderly like some of us have found ourselves in.

Once in a while there are holidays that come in a row and a weekend before it so four (4) days are a treat. The days could have been the days to make a go of many things that were left unattended for quite a time but as it happened the days just  made the time for us. When would these moments come again would be one of those "miracles".

Here is one who wishes all teachers would have all the time for their organic gardens and blogging without a thought where their next salary would come from. We can dream all the time, can't we?

Many good things in a day!

For our Muslim brothers and sisters: Eid ul fitr or Eid'l Fitr 2011 - according to our sources, this a very special holiday their joy is compared to what Christians feel during Christmas Day!

For the country: President Pinoy leaves for China on a 5-day visit. Spratlys issue is up for discussion other than possibilities for more investments.

For the Japanese: a new Prime Minister in the person of Yoshihiko Noda.

Many good things are happening in a day's time and like any good thing, our hopes are high that better things lay ahead! We do pray for better things what with Hurricane Irene in the United States, Mina in the Philippines, another typhoon in Taiwan. Everywhere you look on tv, there seems to be disaster. Now, the world has really become so small and we really feel that the world is fragile and every person in the planet is vulnerable. Imagine, it is no longer landslide in Baguio but trashslide - the onslaught of a mountain of trash to where people reside somewhere in the vicinity. The sight in Baguio is not an isolated case; we have to look at our own landfill and find out if it is safe or just waiting for a week-long rainy session for it to come crumbling down literally to your doorstep!

Let us offer both the good and the bad. This reminds us of the short stay we have on this earth so if we can do something good, do it now!

Today, August 29, is a holiday for the workforce. Already there were symbolic rites held in Taguig Rizal - where President Pinoy gave honor to all the Philippine heroes. Usually however, we call these heroes, heroes of the past.We always honor Dr. Jose Rizal, our national hero; Andres Bonifacio, Great Plebian and Father of the Katipunan; General Gregorio del Pilar, Hero of the Battle of Tirad Pass. Regardless of time we know these heroes gave us freedom and independence.

Today, heroes, according to Psychology Today (and we agree!) heroes are those who have the willingness to make sacrifices for the benefit of others. This might be a very loose meaning given to heroes but it is one that has relevance to what we continue to do: to care for our loved ones without counting the cost. In connection with this site, some advanced the notion that for them teachers are the heroes of today. This remark makes me smile and to a certain extent we agree. Teacherallherlife agrees that the many years of teaching could not have lasted so long if not for the promise of serving the young minds and through them provide the country with the leaders of tomorrow. Also we realize that because we are teachers, we make it a point to rear our own children as good citizens which indirectly point to the fact that their mother and father are "heroes" for them. If teachers are considered heroes, parents are greater heroes. Who can question their willingness to make sacrifices for the benefit of their children. Precisely because they take care of their children that some would discredit their being heroes because it is expected of them to take care but we know better. We too will say without a doubt that we consider our parents heroes.

The heroes of the future will have to be treated more kindly. Anyone and everyone can become heroes for as long as they live for the betterment of others. These heroes might not be declared by organizations but then that is not the point of being heroes. The point is to live a life that considers the situation of others, especially those who do not have anybody to defend them. You are heroes of the future if you do not consider heroes today or in the past. You are as important as the heroes.

Much can be said about heroes but what matters the most is that heroes are not statues but real living peple who care and are concern for the freedom and independence of others.

Hurricanes, typhoons, fire,

United States is bracing itself for the coming of Irene (my daughter's name is Irene!) so what are the preparations? Who is Irene? Sorry, but this is one instance the coming is not welcome, what with Irene called the "hurricane of historic proportions". Every channel you view has its strong winds and huge waves plastered all over the areas.
When things like this happen, it is not difficult to expect other catastrophes join in: typhoons or fires. It is only during these fearful and traumatic scenarios that man resorts to prayer. This too is what this blogger can offer to those who will be hit along the paths of destruction.
Just moments ago, our home was visited by strong winds and rain. My favorite garden umbrella got ripped and we waited for other objects to fall or get deformed  but  just as quickly the winds and rain came, suddenly it stopped! After we collected the debris and the torn garden umbrella, all we could do was sigh and utter some words of gratitude nothing major happened.
Asa teacher, events like this, become points of reflection about the many trials that haunt us every other day or month or so. While we go through these low moments of our life, nothing seems to make us smile or laugh yet just when we give up or offer all these thunderstorms that take away our prized possessions, the gloom disappears. Others even take the loss as reminders of the temporary nature of our lives on earth. Others emerge victorious after the hurricanes of life.
To Americans and other fellow journey companions, let us think positively and believe all these things will come to pass. . .

"Journo" of GMA featured Nora Aunor and just viewing it brought us back to the years when the cinema only had Amalia Fuentes-Susan Roces; Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor tandems captured the hearts of the '70's - this blogger included.

The years of idolizing the pairs were the years of learning how to look like them and compile pictures of them and dreaming to become stars like them someday. The same years taught the fans not to overdo looking up to them because they are after all- human beings prone to the same weaknesses we have. In fact we saw or hear how each of their lives went through ups and downs; successes and failures. Their lives taught us the difference between real and fiction; between reality and fantasy.

Today we hear of Amalia Fuentes contented as grandmother of Liezl-Albert Martinez kids. This blogger saw Amalia Fuentes in one of the branches of Power Books. Amalia is really beautiful even if she is past 60. This is also the aura of Susan Roces. Vilma Santos is now the governor of Batangas and remains star for all seasons. Nora Aunor may not be able to sing the way she used to but she is a "survivor" of life's trials and her beauty is best seen in her strength to bounce back.

The young people today have their own idols and they have a lot to choose from - what with singers, dancers, actors who have dazzling personalities. Visit www.bonaserios.com to see some photos of those who got married beautiful and handsome pairs who could have opted to become actors themselves but decided to tie the knot because of love.

There is nothing wrong with admiring someone else's beauty or fame. Just do not forget, you need not go far to "idolize" someone. Your parents are there. Your kuya or ate who is helping you - finish your studies. Your relatives and friends who have only your good future in mind. "Idolize" the right people but know when to distinguish the real from the unreal; reality from fantasy.  Know your hierarchy of values: God, family, friends, acquaintances.

One of my children gave me a poster which states: "Having a place to go is what makes a home; having someone to love is called a family."

A classroom is a place where the teacher and the students meet to do many things. Basically, the main task is for the teacher to teach with all her mind, heart and soul. In the same vein, the main task of the learners is to participate in the process of teaching such that they are learning the facts of life. Some of the experiences that both parties experience are not always wholesome because they have their own agenda. When their intentions clash, especially in a college setting, conflict and  misunderstanding are bound to happen. This is the present dilemma of Teacherallherlife and to go through the pain is part of the solution.
Eldely Blues and Blows suggests to begin again so this is certainly what Teacherallherlife will do today. A saying was shared here in an earlier blog: " Teachers like leaves, everywhere abound; effective teachers, like fruits, are rarely found." In connection with the challenge to begin again, effective teachers will not find it hard to do this. Let us all be effective teacher today; let us begin again!
From our end as  teachers, we always try to do better everyday and avoid the pitfalls of a classroom dilemma but there are always points why things happen. The other end where the students are, have to be considered whatever it is. Somewhere a compromise can be reached and together the two parties who are really the components of the educative process have to begin again.

Together with Elderly Blues & Blows, Teacherallherlife, we commit this A23 challenge: Begin again.

August 21 is an important event for it ignited the anger that the Filipinos suppressed in their hearts. By ignited is meant that even Martial law could no longer stop the filipino from going to the streets and shouted for freedom and liberation from the then Marcos regime. It reminds us of what one man, Benigno Aquino fondly called Ninoy, husband of Cory Aquino, our deceased first lady president  and father of our present president,Benigno "Noynoy"  Aquino, can do to a people who almost hope for better things to come.  Ninoy's words will always inspire us to think good of the filipino for he defended if with his life when he uttered the words: "The filipino is worth dying for."
It is surprising that August 21 is not declared a holiday. Perhaps someday very soon what with the Aquino clan giving us the best testimonies of how to love our country. The mere mention of Cory is tantamount to honoring the freedom she gave back to our country just as the mere mention of Ninoy is the epitome of heroism just when heroes are thought of as mere statues to be remembered like in the books.

Thank you Ninoy and Cory for the lives that we hope to emulate. Thank you for being the good parents that you were to your children. We, who have children, find comfort in the fact that good parenting is always the best way to help our country. Would you believe, I have 3 boys who have not decided to marry yet and I want to believe it is because they want to be prepared when the right woman come along. So when our bachelor president,Noynoy, finally meets the One, he has some decision to make

For someone like me who hopes to try politics after retirement from active employment, the warning is already up front: unless it is  meant to be, better ask for some sign for like Cory she never wanted the limelight yet when she had to become president because the people wanted her to lead the country, she adamantly accepted. She had one beautiful thing going for her: she wanted to serve in the real sense of the word. She did not become another person to please the people around her. Ninoy must have supported her all along for up to the time she vacated the presidency, she left it with the same dignity as she entered it. Not many presidents can follow what Cory did.

Now we are celebrating the 28th death anniversary of a man who has left a legacy of a family worth emulating by every filipino clan.Thank you Ninoy for a life worth living for! Our prayers for your everlasting happiness with the Maker and our Father God.

What we really want to say is that with fifty (50) channels given by Parasat (which they say should even be more!) there is much to learn from and much to teach about.
Cristina Aguilera is a refreshing sight to behold being one of the judges in the new addition of AXN, The Voice. Cee Lou Shelton, Adam , Blake as the other judges are supposed to form their own group of 8 and from them choose the best voice. A 2-hour show it is difficult to follow but we will intersperse our viewing with it as it goes on showing.
Net 25's Footprints had for this Sunday night presentation the way charcoal is prepared from garbage. Tv episodes, like this, are man's ways of taking care of Mother Earth especially now that she is really wailing for protection.
Fox News is really a channel to watch if you like many harsh comments about Obama Administration. This particular episode however shows a priest who comments about Religion's Role in Politics and as always this comment demands varied reactions.
The channel to watch is ch 50 (lotus Macau) in our cable. You are sure to view films which are worth your night time: a rerun of Godfather, Air Force 1 and now The Fugitive. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee ones make your night with their acting. If the new program on "The Voice" is intricate so is "The Fugitive". The pain of trusting a friend and be disillusioned by t because this so-called best friend really killed your wife. Being fugitive for a cause even The Feds led by Jones was treated to the truth that was difficult to surface.

Not to be forgotten is EWTN especially now that the Pope, Benedict XVI is is Spain for the World Youth Day celebration. My children are reminded of the one time when they too wanted to join one world day celebration, that time in Germany, but all the wrong intentions of the so-called recruits, made it one of those sad learning experiences. Even those that are supposed to be religious are affected by the intentions of the not so religious who use events to earn extra money. The usual saying comes into the picture: "Money is the root of all evils".

Tv viewing is one of the motions this blogger never gets tired doing, especially now that one of her blogs is "Elderly Blues & Blows."

Introduction

It is without a doubt a source of wonder to right-handed persons how the left-handed ones go about their lives and vice-versa. Being right handed, the researchers take up this challenge to understand better the status of the left-handed especially since all of them are college students and are presently in Education.Through this research too, the university where the students are enrolled in have the responsibility to do their share to serve better the left-handed students in some way like making sure there are at least three to five chairs in every room. There should be more conscious effort to find out who are the left-handed and who are the right-handed by the Guidance Office. This information should be thoroughly considered and programs can be organized to respond to their needs.
It is coincidental that the researchers have children or relatives who are left-handed and admitted that they did not find any problem in dealing with them. This could be attributed to the fact that they were enrolled in private schools where every room has enough chairs reserved for left-handed students. Still it is an interesting decision to make a research about their case and what can be done to facilitate what they may be indicate in the questionnaire and in the interviews.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Having expressed a portion of the introduction to the research, is there any author out there who has done research along these lines? Or are you writing something like this just as we are doing it? Do share and in the future, let us exchange notes.

HBO, as always, presents stories that make our life a little more bearable on one hand and more exciting on the other. Take the movie, Hachiko: A Dog Story with Richard Gere as the main actor, and of course the well-trained dog called Hachiko.
Like any movie it has details that if you really want to feel the incidents, you just have to take time to view it. In this instance for example, Hachiko has to be put up for adoption because the family of Gere does not want to take care of one now that their daughter is grown up. In the process, there was no one willing to take Hachiko because they have other pets, like a cat or has a business which does not encourage having a dog around.
The story progresses with Gere bringing the dog to the school where he teaches. Nicely hidden inside Gere's bag is Hachiko but like any other "active" animal it wants to bolt out of hiding and the plan to give it up has to be sooner rather than later.
Some touching scenes need to be highlighted: Gere found in Hachiko, which was revealed as having "royal" blood a friend. He talks to Hachi like a son, his child being a lady now and married. They watched baseball in the evening and ate popcorn. He slept in the sofa. All along the wife was just observing and soon would get the idea and the inevitable had to be entertained: Hachiko had to stay on. This was not so bad because the daughter liked Hachiko and the photo sessions were worth the time.
Nothing beats the scene though when Hachiko would make it to the train station by foot to be there to send off and welcome back his master everyday. Ahhh, how Hachiko only needed his loving pat and caress to make his day. This makes me warm all over because my family has a dog called Michael  2 (photo later), Michael 1 being our very first pet and died because of an irresponsible vet (details later).
Light moments: The master and the dog and their ordeal with the skunk! and those instances of training Hachiko to pick up the ball which never materialized for Hachi is not into this kind of treatment. Loyalty however is his cup of tea.
Then the saddest event came when the master had a heart attack and died. My heart bled for Hachiko for while the burial happened, Hachiko still felt his master was alive. No one, as in literally no one could stop him from waiting for the next nine years to be there when his master would come back. Hachi grew old lovingly waiting and waiting and waiting  (Am about to cry all over again . . .like when I cried so painfully loud when Michael 1 died.)
According to the film, a statue was made in Hachiko's memory when he died but am sure Hachiko did not mind leaving this world when he was with his beloved master in that life after death somewhere.
Reflection proper: When you have a loyal friend your friend becomes a beautiful world to live in. When your family is there to love you and you have a pet which lives only for your coming and you believe in a God who has prepared a room for you in His house and you are yourself living a moral life then life is a story that may end but its imprint lives on. Thank you Hachi for making us reflect on what matters the most in life. May there be more Hachikos here in Malaybalay, the whole of our country, Philippines and the world out there.

Teaching Planting Skills

Planting is a both a skill and an advocacy. It is a skill because others plant and whatever they plant, die, so those who have the skill to plant find the seedlings they planted, alive and healthy. It is an advocacy because tree planting is really a way to do a proactive role to take care of our Mother Earth which by now is declared ravished and abused, denuded and deforested.
So there is this executive order by the President of the Philippines which is envisioned to last for six years, Greening Project to see our watershed protected by trees, bring back timberland and rainforest for the sake of our health and the sustainability of our protection from typhoons, floods and the like. Will this really become a reality if we do not imbibe planting as both a skill and an advocacy? Que sera, sera . . .
As a teacher, we hope to begin our first steps with putting into action planting as a skill and an advocacy: as a faculty members and students of the College of Teacher Education.
There is a big chance we pray for after all, education is "lifting" up all those possibilities that make us better persons, more responsible members of society, proactive teachers and students.
We intend to prove our "salt: sooner rather than later. . .

Teaching is a life-long misson, profession, vocation. We can almost say this like a mantra. After all, this blogger has begun teaching way back 1976 so the name Teacherallherlife. So also the idea of retiring is inevitable and welcome nowadays. Any retired, retirable, planning to retire out there? How are you coping with your newly-found niche? Did it come as an easy transition or a life "downhill"? I hope not! We will not let this defeatist attitude ever dominate for experience alone can overcome it notwithstanding the presence of family and friends. Rather, retirement can take on many forms of expression and this blogger will see to it she will do her share to be proactive as a "retirable" candidate herself.
There is this haunting thought though that creeps in whether we like it or not. This is the fear of mortality and the unknown. There is wisdom in the course of action to assess one's life story and make sure prayer life plays a more active role here and now.
How is your health fellow blogger? Tips that you can share to this blogger? Some signs of pain here and there; an itch here and there seem to trouble the elderly and this blogger is no exception. Ah, to "retire" is indeed becoming a very good idea  nowadays only to accept the twin challenge to hold on to what ore life has to offer.

Try to dig deeper into this saying: "Teachers, like leaves, everywhere abound; effective teachers, like fruits, are rarely found." Perhaps the analogy is a little exaggerated for there are effective teachers as  many as the leaves but teachers who really walk their talk all the time are rarely found like the fruits of trees which rarely produce fruit.
This was one saying that my students felt had much substance and gave them inspiration to strive and become an effective teacher even if it means a quest for a lifetime. Many in fact, opted to begin as mere teachers and as years give them the experience and the wisdom find themselves becoming  effective as their own colleagues superiors and students confirm in their remarks and evaluations.

Yet it just hits me: does it really matter? Aren't there more important things to pursue like becoming better spouses or parents or friends? But then why not all these plus become an effective teacher as well? Fellow mentors, pause for a while and give it some thought - and someday - let teaching be the way to a much better future, for the young minds and the whole of humanity.

You just have to be so calloused if you still find yourself unaware or uncaring about all the litany of issues and concerns here in Malaybalay specifically and the Philippines generally and the world globally speaking. In fact we can only look at a few if some reflection has to be in depth enough and doable soon enough.

Let us begin with the plan to implement K plus  12. If parents have enough time to listen to the pros and cons, they might see the wisdom behind the pressing need for it. If the experts cite the observation that the Philippines is one of the two(2) remaining countries which has not kept pace with the international standard of offering a total of twelve (12) years before tertiary training. Teacher's teacher does find the new move untimely for everyone is financially challenged. This topic is going to be dealt with for a long time to come. This blog will not be the last about it.

Did you not ask yourself why the world is beset by all kind of disasters sometimes one cannot but help entertain the idea of "Eschaton" or "End Time"? All you have to do is to give some time to viewing cable tv. Chin is always experiencing flush flood; many places in the Philippines wake up with waters already inside and outside their homes; then these floods have substitutes like earthquakes here and there or killings which are beyond comprehension why it happens. Imagine a son "hammered to death" his parents because they did not agre immediately with his plan to hold a party. So the son went on with the party while the dead bodies of his parents were left lifeless in their rooms.

(To be continued . . . just fell asleep due to over fatigue . . .)

Looking at the new set-up of e blogger tells me loud and clear what is the tone of this blogspot's contents. Nowadays, one day seems to roll by and all the events seem to get cramped and remain unreflected.

Take the landslide in Bukidnon, Philippines where there were victims. My own son experienced the pain of his friend who lost his wife in that dreadful event. This friend has two children so the tragedy leaves him the inevitable responsibility of taking care of the children.

Inside the classroom, the sad plight of students continue. One class for example, all the students failed in a long test because they were reckless in answering, over and above they never took the time to read the notes thoroughly. One scenario is tainted by death while the other is tainted by loss of interest. Where does that leave the onlooker? the teacher who is worried over any condition that destroys the good future?

This coming Friday, July 15, some 300 freshman students taking Education will compose the audience of an orientation. Teacher's teacher who happens to be the chairperson of the Program committee posted the theme for the said activity: "Freshman year well lived makes every college life worth the wait." Do you agree? Any freshman anyone? Teacher's teacher would like to hear from you. Do write your own analysis of the theme.

This is my invitation to visitor of this blogspot. Share your original poem about your father. See http:// www. Malaybalayan. blogspot.com  to know the mechanics. Feel free to write it in this blog if you so decide. The contest runs from June 19 to July 7 when on July 1 Teacher's teacher turns 61 and on July 7, her son celebrates his birthday.

It seems appropriate to say that there are moment in our lives that teach us not to take the gift of life for granted. Sometimes the realization comes too late. The times when our parents are very much with us are some of those moments we should never take lightly. Do not just tell them you love them; show them how you have their welfare very well covered. Which reminds me: have you taken a family picture? Contact www.bonaserios.com or email him at bonaserios@yahoo.com for fresh, fun and funky photography! Want a sample? This blogspot does not allow even if the photo is downloaded so see Malaybalayan.blogspot.com instead.

See your poems soon?

Shalom, My Fellow Sojourner

Expect to see excerpts of Teacher's teacher "book" about Peace. In fact its title is "Shalom My Fellow Sojourner". Hopefully, other authors can comment a thing or two.May this zest to share hold.

You see, the news that bombards us day in and day out sometimes negates the very root of our being. This being said, there seems to be some power over and above and beyond us that keeps pushing the remnants of the fire to hold on to the humaneness and goodness that is latent in the core so let it be.

So, Shalom My Fellow Sojourner . . .

If there comes a moment of despair
There comes too, a moment of repair
Life seems to paint so many patterns
There are those that catch one's chagrin
But more that makes us grin
So we go the mile Fellow Sojourner
We nod with all that confirms life firmer
Am for it, I pray, you too!

For a very long time the notion was that travel was only for the rich and the famous. This was the thought for local travels so international travel was definitely out of the picture. What was instrumental in changing this accepted arrangement was Cebu Pacific discount fares. We have to thank Cebu Pacific for such a move for Teacher'steacher was able to visit Hongkong-Zhenzhen-Macau China last 2008 and this year, 2011, in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur last February and Hongkong-Macau  again this March!

Other travel agencies also loosened their air fares but not as record breaking as Cebu Pacific's. At least it is no longer unreachable to see our neighboring Asian countries. The next stop will have to be New York or if Oprah reads this blog: Chicago.

So travel before you reach 70 while your feet can still get you where your companions are rushing to go. Just to think Metro Railway Train is so much to anybody who can not walk briskly to enter the train before its door closes and leave it soon enough before it again closes. Also be ready to stand if there are no more "gentlemen" around who will offer their seats for you.  You have to hold on to the railing or remain standing with your feet apart ready for a balanced stance so you will not fall if there are sudden brakes.

At the end of the day, travel bug is one good bug that can happen to you.

It is heartening to know that Prince William of Wales expresses some jitters before April 29, 2011 wedding with Kate Middleton. Even more exciting to note is what this wedding will mean to the imagination of writers all over the world. Thanks to the internet and tv, people all over the world will see a beautiful ceremony amidst all crises that beset the world.

If for Prince William it is jitters, for the on-lookers, it is a  much awaited love story about to come true not only for the two of them but to what love stories are made of. Jitters tell those who have loved and those who are in love that such a feeling is normal and ultimately is a sign of true love.
By now there is a countdown until April 29 comes. Teacher's teacher got the information that when the time comes that a baby comes along, a Filipino nanny might be invited to become one. We would like to believe that a Filipino  is chosen as a possible nanny because she knows how to take care of a baby plus she can communicate well and is basically a good care giver.

May God bless the soon-to-be married Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton with the best gifts marriage brings. May their love give fruition to the overused ending of most love stories: . . .and they live happily ever after . . .

Just looking at the twin boys "blabbing" "talking" "communicating" gives us all the reason in the world to smile and know that the world is still worth living in.  Children, indeed, make our day.

So let us see the video again and again. . . and smile again and again . . .

How do we make sense with loss of life other than natural death is the question foremost in the minds of families who lost their loved ones through death penalty, heinous crimes and the like? How do we make sense with  the loss which by itself is senseless and if ever has basis, the life of a human being should have ample strength to get more significant weight over all other issues at hand?

Due to the internet, especially Google, it is already one's ignorance if you cannot surf once in a while if only to update one's awareness. Part of this move however is to ask questions, one of which is the present one: How do we make sense with loss of life/lives other than natural death? We are all stuck right there in our living room or kitchen or internet cafes brooding, thinking and sighing why all these phenomena are still happening in 2011.  Then we realize, for as long as every person refuses to go beyond instinct, materialism, egoism, cannibalism and plain sinful tendencies, man will go on answering the questions as long as it takes.

Today has a different meaning depending on where you are situated in the globe: others are a day ahead while others are a day late and this alone leaves you to do the research why?
This is the word for this blog: WHY? These are some of the whys that will make or unmake you, help or destroy a person's life:
One: Why are some people very rich they have a hard time thinking how to spend it? Why are others facing the whole country, like the Ligot couple of the Philippines, answer or not answer whether they owned houses in Los Angeles or Canada etcetera; whether they have millions of dollars or pesos out of their sweat or out of their escapades legal or illegal - still in court to be settled -. Why Mr. and Mrs. Ligot can  sit there in the Senate hearings for weeks now and look at people and smile or laugh along the way with every other Filipino gnawing or biting their tongues how to control themselves not to throw anything directed to the tv hoping it will hit you?
Two: Why are many people very poor they have to become "drug mules" or rob or scavenge or stare at the sky hoping for manna from heaven or become crazy or killers or commit suicide? Why are Sally Ordinario, Ramon Credoand Elizabeth Batain today, March 30,  awaiting their execution in a foreign country,  Beijing, China, when there some proofs according to some sources, that they are victims of drug syndicates? "3 Filipino Drug mules" they are called. An additional information has just  surfaced that in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, there are about 70 Filipinos who are also facing execution, why? why? why? Back to the 3 Filipino mules awaiting execution: the promulgation of the verdict  will happen at 9:45 A.M. Beijing, China and the time now is 8:16 A.M. Our heart goes out to  the children, the parents and relatives and every Filipino who are praying ardently, hoping for a miracle that only the hand of God can bestow. We have only God to rely on for the Chinese government has already said its piece, that the Chinese government is hard on Drug peddlers. Only God knows why Ordinario, Credo and Batain are embroiled in such a dangerous situation it has come to this consequence: death by lethal injection.
Three: Why is there death penalty in China and other countries when by now it is common knowledge that even heinous crimes are not eradicated by death penalty. Criminals, after all, are human beings whose lives are given by God and no country - superpower or not - can take away a person's life which is not its property in the first place. There are many schools of thought about death penalty but there is no question about who has given life to man: the Creator or God, the Author of Life!
These are just some of the whys that Teacher's teacher would like to reflect upon. Many more whys will be dealt with in the succeeding blogs.
In the meantime, let us take a moment or so to observe silence, bow our heads and offer prayers for our co-filipinos whose lives are in the hands of the Chinese "justice" system. May God be with you more than ever . . .
